To our valued Vivi & Tom Inc. customers:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) has asked us to reach out to you regarding a recent recall involving the following products:
Beef Meatballs; Broccoli, Potato & Basil Purée; Beef & Squash Purée; Salmon & Mango Purée; Chicken & Parsnip Purée; Liver & Pear Purée; Sweet Potato Applesauce; Fish Cakes; Chicken Meatballs; Carrot, Peach & Apricot Purée; Squash Bites;
Note: this recall does not include our Banana-Pumpkin Muffins or Fruit Gummies.
This recall has been issued because our jars do not explicitly state on a label that they require refrigeration or freezing. If the food is not properly stored, there is a risk of Clostridium botulinum, also known as botulism. Further details can be found on the CFIA website: http://www.inspection.gc.ca/about-the-cfia/newsroom/food-recall-warnings/complete-listing/2019-02-14/eng/1550194496843/1550194499013
The importance of refrigeration and/or freezing of our meals was provided via a handout, an email, or an in-person conversation, which we had believed to be the best way to advise customers of this. However, the CFIA requires that these products have a label affixed to the jar that states this requirement. We have taken the steps necessary to remedy this situation by labeling all jars according to this bylaw, and apologize for any worry or inconvenience that this misinterpretation has caused. The CFIA wants to support Vivi & Tom Inc. with education, and Vivi & Tom Inc. will be working with the CFIA to take corrective action on this matter.
As long as the foods were stored properly in the refrigerator or freezer, we do not believe there is cause for concern. There have been no illnesses reported, and there is no reason to panic or fear. We take food quality and handling very seriously at Vivi & Tom. However, we respect the CFIA’s procedures and advise that if you do have any remaining food, please either discard it or arrange for us to pick it up from you, and we will arrange to replace the item or issue a refund.
We hope that you know and trust our commitment to providing your little ones with the most nutritious and safe food possible – Vivienne and Thomas have literally eaten a meal from every single batch we have made (and loved it)! This is our mission, and we are fully confident in the product we have provided to you.
Thank you for your continued support of our small business, and thank you for standing by us as we improve our labeling requirements.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
